Data Visualization Examples

OECD Government Debt Highlight Table

This visualization shows government debt as a percentage of GDP across OECD countries over time. The highlight table allows for quick comparison of debt levels between countries and across years, with color indicating relative magnitude. Values above 100% are visually emphasized through the diverging color scale.

Debt Trends Over Time

This visualization shows how government debt changed over time across selected countries, with a noticeable increase around 2020. Key countries such as Japan and Estonia are highlighted to show consistently high and low debt levels.

To make this pattern clearer, I chose to work with a subset of countries instead of the full dataset. Including all countries made the visualization too cluttered and difficult to interpret, so narrowing it down helped me focus on the main story. I used a line chart because it allowed me to clearly show how debt levels evolved over time, making the increase around 2020 more visible. I also used color selectively to highlight key countries while keeping others more muted, which helped guide attention without overwhelming the viewer.

Compared to the heatmap from Part 2, this visualization is more effective for showing change over time. While the heatmap provided a good overview of debt levels across countries, it was harder to follow trends across years. The line chart makes it easier to see how values shift over time and better emphasizes the pattern I was trying to highlight.

Trust in News Organizations

This visualization explores levels of trust in different news organizations based on survey data. It highlights variation in public perception across sources and helps identify which outlets are viewed as more or less trustworthy.
